Real Madrid has signed French superstar Kylian Mbappe, announcing the deal in a brief statement. Mbappe, considered one of the best soccer players in the world, will join the club for five seasons. Real Madrid had previously tried to sign him in 2017 and 2022. His new contract is worth €15 million annually after taxes, with additional performance-based incentives and a €150 million signing bonus spread over the contract’s duration.
Mbappe’s move comes after deciding not to extend his contract with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), allowing him to join Madrid on a free transfer. Although he will earn less at Madrid than his previous $100 million pre-tax annual salary at PSG, Mbappe rejected a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal to join Madrid.
During his seven seasons with PSG, Mbappe led the team to consistent first-place finishes in Ligue 1 and earned numerous individual accolades. Despite PSG’s high-profile signings of Lionel Messi and Neymar, the club did not secure a Champions League title, prompting a shift in their spending strategy following significant financial losses.
