Founder of LoveWorld (Christ Embassy), Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, has addressed the exit of several prominent gospel artists, including Sinach, Joe Praize, Frank Edwards, and Eben. These artists, who started their careers in the church, moved on to pursue independent ministries.
Reports previously suggested that their departures were linked to restrictions on ministering outside the church. As their careers flourished globally, their participation in Christ Embassy’s music ministry reportedly declined.
In a recently surfaced video, Pastor Chris clarified that his decision to part ways with these artists was based on a shift in their focus. According to him, they strayed from their spiritual calling and prioritized personal fame over ministry.
He expressed concerns that the church’s music was becoming more about entertainment than worship. Despite his attempts to guide them, they refused to align with his vision, leading to their departure.
His Statement
“Why did this happen? The church was turning into a place of entertainment rather than a house of prayer where God’s word was truly celebrated. These singers were not winning souls; they led praise but left when it was time for prayers. The music in the church started to change—it became worldly. They performed for themselves, celebrated themselves instead of God, and even began charging fees for their singing. They became professionals who made money from the church, and many pastors did not realize that this was how the world was creeping into the church.
“Initially, I celebrated them, but when I made a shift toward a different direction, they refused to change with me. That’s when I had to let them go. God was speaking to me, showing me this was not the right path. I told them the Lord wanted us to do things the right way, but they had become too focused on their newfound popularity and financial gains. They didn’t want to follow me anymore, so they chose a different path. I hope they find their way back and repent because they are no longer worship leaders.”
Netizens Reactions
Pastor Chris’ statement has sparked debate online. Some support his stance, agreeing that gospel artists should remain dedicated to their spiritual mission. Others argue that musicians should have the freedom to expand their ministries beyond their home church.
The controversy continues, with many awaiting responses from the gospel artists mentioned.,
